The story behind the designs

The Making of Genesis

The first collection can truly make or break a start up, here is how we balanced bold designs with crowd appeal as we stepped onto the scene.

Daylight Dice A few minutes to read

We researched several production methods and interviewed dozens of manufactures before we found the perfect match. After months of searching, we found Jason who understood our vision and recommended an old school but often underutilized method of production which would allow us to provide extremely custom designs. With Double Cast we were able to achieve the sharp polished corners, extremely bold colors, and varied complex designs we wanted. With this newfound clarity, we got to work settling on four designs.

Out of hundreds of ideas, we chose the four above. We wanted bold designs that popped out even within a colorful sea of dice, and used not only dramatic color, but also intriguing shape-of-design to make an undeniable impression. You may notice that some of them changed slightly before they went into production. Flash Sheet was originally going to be only traditional roses with a bright red text, but our focus group found the design to repetitive. Instead we chose a much more varied pattern that uses dozens of classic tattoo designs rather than just one. We also added yellow and altered the geometric designs in the background of Vapor Empire, this jolt of color was the perfect final touch.

Our production method has one flaw, you essentially need to make every die twice.
Our production method has one flaw, you essentially need to make every die twice.

Production begins by creating the inner core, the core is the exact shape of the die that it goes into, only slightly smaller. These are cast out of resin just like the outer shell, so the weight of every die is always perfectly fair. This also means we could have chosen to make the dies semitransparent, swirled, or multicolored, but we chose to keep them a solid color so we could pack them with pigment and allow the designs and numbers to be more easily readable. Since the inner cores are also sharp edged, every face needs to be polished as well. Every 7-Piece set features 140 faces that must be polished.

Each design is applied by hand before the decorated cores are cast in another layer of resin to seal in the design under a permanent and perfectly clear shell. After this, all that's left is to hand ink the numbers and logo, and the set is finally ready to bring some daylight to your table!
